Hutu refugees
Bukavu, Zaire, 1994 A Hutu refugee and her baby take a canoe across a stream along the border between Rwand and Zaire. After the Rwandan genocide in which ethnic Hutus killed hundreds of thousands of Tutsi, Hutus where chased from Rwanda and took refuge by the hundreds of thousands in neighboring Zaire. (today Democratic Republic of Congo) Tens of thousands of those Hutu refugees later died of disease and malnutrition in refugee camps set up in Zaire.
