Hutu refugees

Zaire, 1994

After the genocide in Rwanda 800.000 Hutus, among them the killers who perpetrated the massacres, were chased out of the country to neighboring Zaire und Tanzania. The refugees settled in huge camps in Goma and Bukavu. Tens of thousands died in the following months of colera. For Air&Space Smithsonian
